Charitable Gift Annuity
(CGA)
A Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA) allows individuals to make a meaningful gift to ministry while receiving fixed lifetime income. These agreements are established with WAF or serviced by WAF on behalf of a partner ministry, and provide dependable payments to one or two annuitants, followed by a charitable benefit to the ministry of their choice.
Important Information about CGAs
Irrevocable
CGA agreements cannot be undone after they've been fully ratified.
Fixed Payment
The payment amount of the CGA is finalized in the agreement.
Termination
The final CGA payment is the one that precedes the annuitant’s passing.
Dear Friends,
For many, Charitable Gift Annuities (CGAs) offer a simple and reliable way to support ministries while receiving lifetime income. With a CGA, donors make a gift to a ministry and, in return, receive fixed payments for life—often extending to a spouse as well.
What is a CGA?
A CGA is a contract where donors give a gift—often cash, property, or appreciated securities—in exchange for fixed, lifetime payments. The amount of these payments may exceed the original gift. CGAs are an attractive option for those seeking stable income and an immediate charitable tax deduction. They can also offer tax advantages when appreciated assets are used, as capital gains are spread over time rather than taxed all at once.
Key Benefits
-
Funded by cash or appreciated securities, often from assets no longer needed for daily use.
-
Payments can be made for one life, or the lives of two beneficiaries.
-
Partial charitable income tax deduction in the year of the gift.
-
A portion of the payments may be tax-free for several years.
-
Once set up, CGAs are irrevocable.
How to Get Started
Starting a CGA is simple. With basic information about the donor(s) and the gift amount, we can create an “illustration”—a document that highlights key details to help you decide whether to proceed.
For your illustration, please contact your preferred Adventist ministry/organization or contact WAF and speak with a development officer.
